Our DC block barriers are certified as intrinsically safe by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for use with explosion proof housings in a methane environment.
Stolar’s DC block was designed to act as a high pass filter that isolates the direct current between two AC coupled circuits. During underground mining operations, MSHA mandates DC block modules as a safety device to prevent a “short” or “open” circuit between external RF antennas and electrical/electronic components which might generate a DC arc sufficient to ignite methane. The DC Block is triple redundant against failure; a single component failure does not disable the unit’s function.
